All Statewide Petitions Challenged in Illinois

All four statewide minor party and independent petitions have been challenged in Illinois.  They include the petitions filed by independent candidate Robert F. kennedy, Jr and the petitions filed by the Libertarian, Green, and Constitution Parties.

It is likely that the Kennedy petition will survive the challenge, but that the others won’t.  Assuming the Libertarian Party is not on the ballot, 2024 will be the first presidential election in which the Libertarian Party presidential nominee wasn’t on in Illinois, since 1972.

  1. Deplorable. Biden keeps crying about “pReSeRvInG dEmOcRaCy!1” because he’s too braindead to realize that we actually don’t even have democracy.

  2. The Illinois State Board of Elections could still object to the two unchallenged petitions at their August meeting.

One is Heather Stone, an independent from Peoria. She filed with no running mate.

The other is Christopher Cisco of Piper City, who filed under the Greener Peace Party. He also filed with no running mate.

In Illinois, they prefer the POTUS slate to include a running mate, and the Board of Elections has kicked solo candidates off the ballot for not having one in past presidential election cycles. I recall several from 2012, 2016, and 2020. The only exception is write-in candidates.

Since most of these objections — with maybe the exception of RFK Jr. — will likely be sustained, the next step would be filing as a write-in candidate. The deadline to file paperwork in all 102 counties as a write-in candidate is September 5, 2024.

  3. Yet another case of “saving democracy” or the Trump version of “preserving our republic” actually meaning their own power.

  4. What is the basis for the challenge of the Libertarian Party petition?

  5. Inadequate number of signatures. I told y’all they would all get challenges, LOL! Duh!

  11. A democratic democratcy is when Democrats rule totally and completely by consensus. At that point, everyone is, like, um, totally happy, LOL! Democrats RULE!

  16. About 10 years ago, when I lived near Chicago, I emailed About five state legislators. I said, “If a party has fewer members, why don’t they file fewer signatures, compared to Republicans and Democrats?” None of them replied.

  17. UPDATE: I was able to find that the two candidates who were not challenged for POTUS — Heather Stone and Christopher Cisco — were in fact disqualified from the ballot in November due to submitting paperwork with only the presidential candidate’s name and no running mate. In other words, disqualified through election statutes.

There is an effort to rally against the challenge against RFK Jr., who submitted over 60,000 signatures.

  18. Phil —

And now they’re wanting to make us collect the same number of signatures beginning in 2026, but in 62 days after Pritzker signed the elections omnibus bill into law on July 1.
