The English-Welsh Green Party won four seats, up from just one. The only reason this blog post singles out the Green Party is that there is an equivalent party in the United States.
British ballot access is equal and lenient. Candidates for House of Commons get on the ballot with 500 pounds and ten signatures. Great Britain does not suffer from crowded ballots. The typical district has fewer than eight candidates on the ballot.

Also of note, the British Commons district has about 100K constituents. Ditto for Canada’s Commons. The German Bundesrat? About 125K. France’s National Assembly? About 110K. US Congress? About 800K. Not so representative.
Re the election, Richard failed to note one other important issue.
That’s the utter implosion of the Scottish Nationalist Party. A second matter of note is the surge of the Lib Dems. Yesterday’s exit polls projected 60 or so, which itself would have been huge, but 71 is incredible. The Tories will be the official opposition, but will be looking over their shoulder a small bit.
