Democrats Have U.S. House Candidates in Only Four of Alabama’s Seven Districts

In 2024, Democrats have no nominee on the Alabama ballot for U.S. House in three of the state’s seven districts.  That is the smallest number of Democrats running for U.S. House in any Alabama general election since 2010.  Alabama has had seven districts starting in 1971.

Because of Alabama’s severe ballot access laws, there are no minor party or independent candidates on the ballot for U.S. House this year.  As a result, in three districts, there is only one name on the ballot, the name of the Republican nominee.

In 2022, the Alabama Libertarian Party managed to qualify, and ran candidates in all seven districts, who received a total of 74,920 votes.  As a result of the Alabama Libertarian effort in 2022, there were no districts with only one name on the ballot.

  1. AL COMMIE DONKEYS MOVED TO OTHER COMMIE DONKEY STATES [CA, NY, ETC] TO ESCAPE AL ELEPHANT FASCISM ???

  2. Wait, I’m sorry. Are you saying there ARE 3 districts with only one name on the ballot or that every district has a libertarian candidate for every district?

  3. HOW MANY OF THE 435 USA GERRYMANDER DISTS WITHOUT 1 D AND 1 R [SO FAR IN 2024] ???

    HOW MANY WITH ONLY 1 D OR 1 R ???

    14-2 AMDT TOTALLY DEAD / USELESS ???

  4. What if RFK jr hits matching funds getting at least 5% of.the national vote

Would Matching funds force Alabama to.accept 3rd parties and independents if Bobby was able to pull this off?

    Thank you

  5. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., will get general election funding after the election is over, if he gets 5% of the vote or more. This is not “matching funds”. “Matching funds” only pertains to primary candidates. General election funding has nothing to do with “matching.” The amount of the money for general election funding is Kennedy’s national percentage of the vote, divided by the average of the Harris and Trump percentages of the vote. The resulting percentage is applied to the amount of money the major parties get in general election funding. That amount is a formula and the amount rises every election. I don’t know what that amount is.

  6. Jeff, the first one. In 2022 the libertarians were on, but didn’t get 20% of the vote, so they’re not on this year. The time before that was 2002.

  7. It would not force Alabama to do anything. It would just make it easier for We the People to qualify as a party in Alabama if they chose to do a full party petition drive there when they get the money, which if I remember right would be 4 years from now.

That’s if it goes to we the people, which, he’s on with several parties in some states, independent in others, so would they split it?

Even if we the people got a chunk of money, doing a full party petition drive in Alabama would not necessarily be the best use of it. They could qualify their presidential candidate as an independent again with about a tenth as many signatures in Alabama.

  8. @Terry
There’s nothing wrong with no Democrats running in three districts. What do you think of Richard’s second paragraph?
