   So then what’s the point if they always co-nominate the Republican presidential tickets, no matter how “progressive”, i.e. regressive, those are?

   Sure, they make their own nominations for other offices. But they could do that without making any presidential nomination.

   Like, presumably New York allows parties to maintain ballot access via gubernatorial elections. Or they could re-qualify via petition.

   Alternatively, they could just nominate their own candidate whenever the GOP nominates a regressive…

7. I have no idea who is currently running the party. However Michael Long was a good friend. It was back in 1964 Michael Long called Robert F. Kennedy. SR. A “carpetbagger” from Virginia.

   Therefore, unlike the AIP of CA that party would not have given Bobby Kennedy Jr. a ballot line to avoid the problem with the so-called “sham
   Residents”. Still remember year 1965 in New York when you could get at at Nathan’s at Conney Island a hot dog and short beer for only 65 cents.

8. You will have to ask them why they do not affiliate with the Constitution Party or nominate their presidential candidate.

   Fusion gives them leverage… well, only when it can change the outcome of the election. If the Republicans nominate someone good, they’ll team up. If they nominate someone bad, they’ll give someone else the Conservative line and bleed votes away. Either way, the Conservative ballot line gets enough votes to keep the leverage going. It’s sort of the opposite of ranked choice voting, because you spite your second choice.

   The two major parties are often described as big tents with internal factions. But in most states, there’s none of that competition on the general election ballot, especially with sore loser laws. Some people here would love it if fusion voting or something could chip off some chunks of these conglomerate parties.

9. Indeed. The Constitution Party doesn’t have ballot access in New York. Nominating their ticket whenever the Republican tickets isn’t conservative would make a lot more sense.
   And in 2008, when neither the CP nor the GOP had a conservative ticket, they could have nominated the AIP’s Alan Keyes-Wiley Drake ticket, which also didn’t have New York ballot access.

10. The presidency wasn’t and still isn’t the main focus of the NY Conservative and (I think former) liberal parties. Mainly they serve to influence the major parties by giving or withholding downballot second lines depending on their notion of ideological rigor of nominees, therefore at times altering who the major parties nominate for various offices lower down the ticket. They hold much less sway over presidential nominations, given that most states don’t have fusion of the type that allows them if any and additionally that NY state is not a battleground state for president.
