New Mexico Lets Two Parties Change Their Names

New Mexico is one of the states that has always allowed qualified parties to change their names. Recently the New Mexico Secretary of State allowed the Libertarian Party to change its name to the Liberal Party USA. Then, shortly afterwards, she allowed the Free New Mexico Party to change its name to the Libertarian Party.

The new labels are reflected on the November 2024 ballot.

New Mexico Lets Two Parties Change Their Names — 10 Comments

  1. All right, we got the name Libertarian Party back! The other side must have realized they would lose in court.

  2. RICHARD WINGER,

This reminded me of the CA Secretary of State office phoning me before the Govenor Veto to tell me the AIP could change its name when I was the State Chairman of the American Independent Party. My reply was I would not allow the question to come to the floor.

Then the CA Governor Vitoed the proposed law as unconstitutional.

Therefore why are the parties in New Mexico changing there names?

  3. @MS because NM is not California?

@Chase either that or a child abuser of any intelligence level.

  4. Using the names of the national parties with which they are affiliated makes sense, even if not many people would have have been confused.

  5. I wonder how candidates feel about having their party label switched? They got no say in this.
