California law lets 16-year-olds and 17-year-olds fill out a voter registration form, which is activated when the individual turns age 18. On September 26, the Secretary of State released a registration tally for these pre-registered voters. Their partisan affiliation is: Democratic 42.6%; Republican 13.7%; American Independent 3.7%; Libertarian 1.3%; Peace & Freedom 1.0%; Green .7%; independent and miscellaneous 37.0%.
Excellent start. 14 year olds are next. At some point, the registration age might be below the legal abortable age in California, which is when it may start to get awkward.
I don’t see any problem there, given how many young people are suicidal nowadays.

For me, it was around the time I got my driver’s license. I was still in high school. In fact, I think I was given the form in school. But I didn’t vote until I was in my twenties.
It should be mandating federally, along with voting itself.
Think about it, instead of mock elections, kids in school could vote in the real thing!
