Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Polls Relatively High Vote in New Mexico on Indian Reservation

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr’s best percentage in New Mexico was McKinley County, where he got 1.94% of the vote. His best precincts in that county were all on the Navajo Indian Reservation. He got between 3% and 4.3% in precincts 2 (YahTaHey), eleven (Whitehorse Lake), and twentyfive (Vanderwagen).

McKinley County’s population is 75% Navajo. It is one of three counties in the U.S. where the language most commonly spoken at home is neither English nor Spanish.

  1. I grew up in Gallup, New Mexico, famed in song and story, and yes, it is a whole different world. Even more, in many ways, is the land “different” than the Sioux reservations area of North and South Dakota.

    Eons ago, New Mexico had a strong Green Party, with good support among Hispanics as well as American Indians in northern New Mexico.
