On January 30, the North Dakota House Government & Veterans Affairs heard testimony on HB 1297 and HB 1307. The first bill would ban Approval Voting and ranked choice voting. The second would say that no charter city could have any election rules that vary from state election rules. The Committee has not taken any action on either bill. See this story.

Municipalities should be able to decide for themselves what sort of voting system they want to use.
All votes should be open and on the record.
So if Fargo continues to hold an election with approval voting for its municipal government, which they have already been doing, what will North Dakota do? Seriously, what will they do?
Put a stop to it using state law enforcement as needed.
