Tennessee Governor Signs Bill Making it a Felony for a Local Government Officer to Vote for Sanctuary

On February 12, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee signed SB 6002. The bill makes it a felony for a city council member, or a county governing board member, to vote to create a sanctuary for persons who are not legally in the United States.

  1. Joe, it has to do with voting rights. Can someone be charged with a felony for voting a certain way?

  2. I think it should be illegal to vote against the US Constitution. Secession should not be illegal because there nothing in the Constitution which prohibits secession.

    Being that regulating the international borders and migration across those borders and the naturalization of foreigners are all functions delegated to national or federal government by the US Constitution, any state or local government official who undermines this is acting against their oath of office to protect and defend the US Constitution.

  3. Aiding and abetting a crime is a crime. Crossing borders illegally is a crime. Therefore anyone voting for sanctuary for illegals is committing a crime of aiding and abetting the invasion of the country, which is also known as treason.

    As I explained two weeks ago, I read that felons in Tennessee lose the right to hold office in the future, even after serving their sentence, unless a court reinstates that privilege. That is a way this news relates to ballot access. The argument to why felons should have the opportunity to hold office in the future is so that they may have a chance at the power to make the thing they were convicted of not a felony.

    @Andy & MAAA
    Separation of powers ensures that voting for legislation can never be a crime, because those with the power to make law can never simultaneously have the power to carry out the law. It is the duty of the executor to take the moral action and explain it in court. Therefore I do not see this new law holding up in court, unless Tennesee does not have separation of powers at the local or county level.
