The Land of Enchantment just got more enchanting, as Governor Lujan Grisham signed SB16, which allows Independent voters to vote in the party primary of their choosing. A release from New Mexico Open Elections says that it took ten years of lobbying to see this election law change through.
Thanks to RIck Lass for shipping this news our way.
A great story on the legislative process playing out after several years of trying.

Bad idea. Those who care enough about a political party to pick its nominees should join it by registering for it. “Independents” clearly don’t. I would keep primaries closed.
Parties should pay for and administer their own nomination process and governments should stay out of it.
I gave Winger a heads-up when this bill first came up. Good to see the change.
It will be better when they get rid of government run primaries.
