Canada held a national parliamentary election on April 28. Preliminary results show: Liberal 168 seats, Conservative 144, Bloc Quebecois 23, New Democratic 7, Green 1. No party won a majority. There are 343 seats, so a majority needs 172.

Despite the attempts in some circles to turn yesterday’s election there into a US style two party contest, it seems that many Canadians still value multiparty free and fair elections. Good to see.

On the federal level, Canada appears to have a multi party system, but this is an illusion caused by the fact that the smaller parties are generally regional and confined to particular provinces. The Bloc Quebecois is entirely centered on Quebec, and is essentially opposed there only by the Liberal Party. The New Democratic Party operates primarily in Ontario and British Columbia, and in BC usually only has the Liberals as its opponents..
Canada remains communist.
Walter Ziobro. That is likely how a multi party system would work in the USA if it was nt for the restictive ballot laws stopping it getting off the ground. The interesting thing that the Uk and canada show is it is not the winner takes all system that is stopping the USA from being a multi-party system. If Dems and Repugs were nt making it hard for anyone else to stand I would expect folliwing in USA.
Regional Left wing party to challenge the democrats in more liberal states. Ditto regional conservative party in more republican states.
some sort of national party in areas like Hawai, Texas, Vermount where people have a very strong identity or might feel neglected by the federal government. I would expect parties that stood purely just for local governement in areas where dems or republicans were dominant….
In big usa and senate election I would expect the Democrats and Republicans to be better at keeping there dominance….But they may find that there smaller rivals were costing them these races and feel pressure to adjust policy.
“working class green” is obviously drunk.
