Delaware Bill Moving Non-Presidential Primary from September to April Advances

On May 14, the Delaware Senate Elections & Government Affairs Committee passed HB 65. It moves the non-presidential primary from September to April. If the bill becomes law, the deadline for a new party to qualify for the November ballot would be automatically moved from August to March.

An earlier version of this blog post said that if the bill passes, already-existing minor parties would need to choose their nominees by February of the election year. That was a mistake; the bill would not affect the deadline for existing convention parties to choose their nominees. Thanks to David McCorquodale for the correction.

  1. This seems to happen often. The legislature shouldn’t get involved. This should be between the executive branch and the judicial branch.

  2. Well I’m Donald Trump, the one they’re talking about, if you talk crap about me you’ll get punched in the mouth.

If you disrespect me, forget about it, forget it. Best case for you is you’ll survive to regret it.

  3. Why are all the best people, things, and ideas always from Delaware?

  4. That’s a terrific question. We need President Hunter Biden! If the Democratic Party fails to nominate him in 2028, I’ll be disappointed to say the very least!
