United Kingdom Expected to Lower the Voting Age to Sixteen

On July 17, the British government announced that a bill will be introduced soon to lower the voting age to sixteen.  Because the Labour Party has a majority in the House of Commons, and the party backs the idea, it is considered certain to pass.  See this story.

United Kingdom Expected to Lower the Voting Age to Sixteen — 36 Comments

  1. Very much not coincidentally, it’s a great month to celebrate American independence from the UK, despite all the ways in which inadequate guardrails have led the US government to become worse ever since – in many ways even worse than the UK government of that time.

  2. Sixteen? Why not six? At what point does such idiocy reach rock bottom, if any?

  3. Britain is sunk. Hopefully we won’t be next. Raise the voting age to at least 30 or better yet 40.

  4. They should only be allowed to vote if they are actually working and paying taxes.

  5. The UK is already under Sharia law. You can be fined, cancelled, sacked, ostracized, even jailed for anything from insulting Islam to pointing out readily available facts or expressing unfavorable opinions about immigrant crime, pedophile rape gangs, welfare, disease, jihadist religious extremist terrorism, etc.

Even flying and displaying pride in the national flag and other historic signifiers of national pride – far more, if you fly, for example, the Cross of St. George flag of England separate from the union – can lead to being pilloried as an alleged bigot.

The crescent and star may not yet be on the official British flag. But they might as well be.

  6. That presumes something other than evil intent, and you should know better.

  7. Remember, Satan offered Jesus power over every government on earth. It was a real offer. It had to be in order to be effective. Jesus would know if it wasn’t. Therefore, Satan is in fact in charge of all of them.

The fact that some of them now have no inherited rulers hasn’t changed that. The fact that some claim to be Christian also hasn’t changed it. Satan is a liar, and the father of lies. He can claim to be anything he wants, including Christian and even Christ himself.

Now and forever, all of government power anywhere ever comes from violating free will, even if only as a threat. That does not come from God. All government authority always comes from Satan.

The higher in government you go, the more evil and corrupt you are. There are no exceptions to this. There never were, and there never will be until Jesus establishes His kingdom on earth.

It doesn’t matter how old the voting age is, or if voting is allowed or not. If it changed anything it would already be illegal.

They don’t let me vote, but if they let you, you shouldn’t bother. All it does is give these evil servants of Satan more perceived legitimacy than they deserve or have earned. Either way, they do what they want. But they like the validation of more rather than fewer people voting.

It makes no difference at all who you vote for. People rise in rank and power in government by doing more and more corrupt and evil deeds which subject them to being controlled through blackmail, bribes, etc.

If they resist temptation, or resist it to some degree, they only rise to the level to which they don’t. It works a lot like gravity. Only the most corrupt and evil people who have proven it the most through action, and therefore have the most dirt on them in the most hands to be potentially used against them and the most proven tendency to give in to bribes and threats rise to the highest levels in ANY government.

  8. NOOOO ***CONSTITUTION*** IN THE OLDE UK

  9. The silly opinion in the commie birdcage liner RB linked inadvertently makes a good case for raising the voting age to 60.

  10. “The contours of this new landscape – politically divided, socially connected – are most stark when it comes to intergenerational conflict. If the franchise at the 2019 UK general election had been limited to the under-30s, Jeremy Corbyn would have won the biggest landslide in Labour’s history. If it had been limited to the over-60s, the Tories would have won almost every seat in the land.”

Yeah, excellent case for raising the voting age. Of course, there are various exceptions, but in general, regardless of how knowledgeable or intelligent they are or are not, young people tend to lack the wisdom that comes only from age and experience that guides most older people to avoid supporting communist leftist idiocy of all stripes, whether above board or not, and which most younger people likewise lack.

  11. That incidentally is also why we should limit the voting eligible population in other ways too.

One of the reasons women should not be allowed to vote is that they tend to base their voting decisions on an emotional basis more so than men. Of course there are other reasons, for example that it divides families and sets husbands and wives against each other, thus playing a major role in the breakdown of the traditional patriarchal family.

It’s also important that European based societies limit their electorate to those of European genetic heritage. Otherwise, we end up with the economic and social conditions prevalent throughout most of Africa, Asia, and Latin America, along with the authoritarian or totalitarian forms of government which are prevalent there.

Those of you who have traveled a lot in those areas, particularly outside of tourist and wealthy enclaves, know better than to want those conditions for our descendants in future generations and centuries unless you are severely mentally ill.

Which brings us to: fathering and raising children, as well as remaining married to your first and only wife, should be among the minimum requirements for voting. We must pass our European based civilization on to future generations, so only people who are thus invested in the future should have a vote in shaping it as long as we have elections. The preservation of the family is the key, so only those who demonstrate that commitment by their own actions should have any right to vote.

Only those who own real property and can pay a poll tax demonstrate the economic investment in the community to help select those who guide economic decisions in government.

Only those who completed their military or national service have the requisite understanding to help select those who decide on matters of national security, law enforcement, and civil defense. They should also still be in fighting shape if called upon in a militia or military civil defense reserve system, and should demonstrate their continued ownership of and proficiency with an adequate stock of weapons and ammunition in good working order.

Literacy tests and grandfather clauses also had an important rational basis in helping to make sure that we exclude people who shouldn’t vote from voting. Those who are too ignorant or stupid, those without civic knowledge, and those who are not tied to their local community by multiple generations of residency and civic engagement must be precluded from making the political decisions of that community.

Likewise, those who benefit from government by working for it, receiving government aid, being government contractors and the like have a conflict of interest when they are allowed to vote.

We can go on, but the point is that there are very important reasons for all these types of voting eligibility restrictions which all too many of us have forgotten or never learned, with increasingly disastrous results which put the future of our European based civilization in ever greater peril.

  12. Good. This will make 16 and 17 year olds more responsible and mature. Maturity comes from having obligations and responsibilities, not age. The more freedom you give them the more mature they will be. Teen psychology is better described be game theory… they act the way people expect them to act… treat them more like adults they will be more responsible and mature. Treat them like children they will act like children.

Why do you think teens have become less and less responsible and mature with each subsequent generation? Because every subsequent generation has been treated more and more like children; they’re not allowed to work, helicopter parenting, treating university like grades 13 – 16, etc.

  13. 18-20 year olds in the US were enfranchised starting in the 1970s. How has this made them more mature? Please provide evidence. Has it perhaps made our political decision-making more immature instead? In what years would you say 18, 19, and 20 year olds were relatively on average more mature, say 1776 or 1825 when they were not allowed to vote, or 1976 or 2025 when they were/are?

  14. I’m obviously obsessed with pillorying people, regardless of whether they are guilty of anything or not.

  15. Alden is not completely wrong about the infantilization of teenagers, but voting is the exception to this trend. People demonstrably do not become more mature as voting rights are expanding.

It’s worth asking why the voting age is being repeatedly lowered, in some places now to include 16 and 17 year olds, not very long after 18, 19, and 20 year olds were obnoxiously added not too many years after I aged out of that group myself. I certainly see no evidence that people of that age group subsequently became more mature as a result (or at all).

I think it’s precisely to expand the number and proportion of the whole of poorly educated, immature, irresponsible, nontaxpaying, tax consuming, easily manipulated people voting that the global elitists are pushing such expansion.

It then allows them to execute their evil plans, moving towards a totalitarian world government with a racially mixed population and one world luciferian religion as well as killing off 90% of more of the world population, with ever less and less resistance.

  16. Likewise, has the ever growing expansion of voting to women, other races, those who can’t read, those who don’t own property or can’t pay poll taxes, those who have moved around recently or frequently, “ex” felons, noncitizens including immigrants of questionable legality, etc, made those folks more mature?

Again, I submit it has not.

Are they more likely now than in the past to work hard and honestly for a living and not rely on crime and welfare for survival? To attend church regularly? To serve the country? To be law abiding? To avoid illegal drugs and sexual immorality of all kinds? To avoid filthy obscene entertainment and idiotic “reality” shows? To remain chaste until marriage, have children only in wedlock, not get divorced or raise children in broken families? To discipline those children properly, including by providing a good example by their own behavior? To save and invest instead of living above their means on borrowed money?

We can keep going like this, but I think the answer is pretty obviously that the opposite has occurred.

And that’s precisely why all these groups of folks are being added to the voter rolls, right as third world populations are simultaneously imported into all European Christian based countries.

It’s not a coincidence. Everything we are seeing is working hand in hand as part of the evil plans of Satan and his global elitist and communist demon foot soldiers.

  17. I read the entire piece in the commie rag, only because the author coincidentally is seriously proposing the same voting age that I randomly picked to illustrate the lunacy of this latest British madness. Having done so, I’ve concluded that the piece is best read as a strong argument against various other prior expansions of the electorate during the 19th and 20th centuries, despite the author’s intentions.

  18. I think kids voting is cool. Kids like ice cream. I like ice cream. We all scream for ice cream. Kids will vote for big guys and gals who give them more free ice cream. Like me!

  19. Life begins at conception. If this bill become law, the technically, people age 15 years and 3 months should be allowed to vote.

  20. WHAT PERCENT OF FOLKS TAKE AND GET A’S/B’S IN ANY CIVICS/GOVT CLASS IN PUBLIK HIGH SKOOOLS ???

IE WHAT PERCENT OF OLDE FOLKS OVER 17 ARE FUNCTIONAL ILLITERATES —

IE DO N-O-T VOTE SINCE THEY CAN N-O-T READ A BALLOT ???

  21. That’s one of the reasons we need standing count, or at least voice vote.

  22. Also, if the spambot could read, that is if it was not functionally illiterate, it would have already read above that others here are proposing civics knowledge tests, among a variety of other minimum voting criteria.

  23. FYI, it was “Screaming Lord” David Sutch who was instrumental in getting the British voting age lowered from 21 to 18 in 1970. He is probably best known as the founder of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party.

  24. They should raise it back up, along with reinstalling other past voting criteria.

  25. Many 16-year-olds know more about elections and candidates than the adults do!
