California Governor Announces Plan to Ask Voters in November 2025 to Approve New U.S. House Districts

On August 14, California Governor Gavin Newsom asked the legislature to quickly pass a bill, providing for a popular vote on November 4, 2025 on a new set of U.S. House district boundaries. The bill must pass both houses by August 22 in order to accomplish that objective.

The GOP opened Pandora’s Box with their attempt to redistrict Texas outside of the usual after-census redistricting period (where enough gerrymandering already takes place from both ruling parties). Now the two ruling parties are going to drag this country down in this redistricting war of theirs. And I can only imagine what the Democrats are going to resort to to keep third party and Independent candidates, who they often consider to be little more than Republicans or foreign agents, off the ballot. James Skoufash (Skoufas) will be beside himself in glee as us Greens, Libertarians, and others end up arrested or worse. What a mess the rest of this year and 2026 will be.
