No Mention of Voting Rights in New York City Mayoral Debate

On the evening of October 16, three candidates for Mayor of New York City participated in a two-hour debate. The candidates were Andrew Cuomo, Zohran Mamdani, and Curtis Sliwa. The moderators asked about Israel and Gaza, about what the candidates order when they are at a restaurant, and what sports events they would attend if there were two competing games on the same night. They asked about what parades the candidates were attend if they were Mayor. But not a word was said about voting rights.

New York has a voting rights crisis. New York was the only state in November 2024 in which Kamala Harris and Donald Trump were on the ballot. And the man responsible for that was Andrew Cuomo, one of the three debaters.

Each of the three candidates was asked which politician they most admire. Sliwa said George Pataki, a former Republican Governor. Andrew Cuomo chose his father, Mario Cuomo, also a former New York Governor. Mamdani chose Bernie Sanders.

  26. Reality: Confirmed how? Just because Taran commented on a blog is NOT proof that Taran is me. I have never listened to or read Knapp’s blog. Once in a while my hometown newspaper the El Reno Tribune prints editorials from a Libertarian named Knapp. Maybe it’s the same person but I don’t know. When I see his byline I skip over his column.

  28. I found Knapp’s blog via a link from comments here. Much like here, there was no proof or evidence that I am Robert Stock, of whose existence I also only learned in comments here. Nothing against Robert Stock but I’m named by and after my mother Tara . I’m proud of her and thus proud of my name. Unlike Chris who is ashamed of himself, ashamed of his parents, and is a constant source of shame to them if they are alive.

    Chris the troll wants people to ignore me because he can’t logically rebut my arguments and is scared I’m correct about issues and will persuade readers. Don’t be like Chris; embrace who you are and what you believe, try out your best arguments, and discuss in good faith with a willingness to admit when you are wrong.

  30. Reslity: A 30 minute difference in commenting only means that one person commented then a second person commented a little later. It does NOT mean that the two are one and the same.

  41. Curious: My family called me Bobby. I have two half sisters and a distant cousin who still call me Bobby. When I was 15 I converted to Jehovah’s Witnesses and they called me Bob. I left the Watchtower at the age of 32 in 1990. No one has called me Bob since then. I have exclusively introduced myself as Robert for the past 35 years.

  43. Knapp is 58, so Stock would have been Bob at that time. But Knapp grew up in Missouri so I don’t think Stock is actually that cousin. Knapp is just triggered by the name Bob or Robert, which probably means it was that cousins name who used to use little Tom whenever Junior Samples came on Hee Haw to “sell” the same car every time.

Also more moderate demoRats will get tarred by being associated with him in elections. More of them will lose to GOP candidates which is a win for us.
