For the first time, the Alabama Secretary of State’s official election returns include all write-in votes. Alabama is one of the few states that permits write-ins in general elections, yet doesn’t have a law that requires write-in candidates who want their write-ins tallied to file a declaration of write-in candidacy. Therefore, the Secretary of State had no discretion, and showed all write-ins for all offices. The listing occupies 274 pages.
Loretta Nall, the only known declared write-in candidate for any statewide office, appears to have been credited with 235 write-ins. One must find her tally in each county’s report and do the addition oneself, to know this figure. She was the Libertarian Party nominee for Governor.

What’s Next…
Glad that election is over?
The midterm elections are history. We learned that there is no limit to how disgraceful campaign ads can be, that money flows freely from special interests in hopes of currying future favors, and that voters cast their ballot more to express their frustration with current affairs than to say “yes†to candidates with a strong vision.
There were a few good signs. Voters clearly registered their disgust with mean, nasty campaigns. And signs suggest Americans are tired of such emotionally charged partisanship and playing to the parties’ bases.
But that’s all over now, and Unity08 is gearing up for our 2008 presidential race to start taking our country back.
What’s Next for Unity08
Here is a snapshot of some of the key happenings currently underway and planned at Unity08 for the coming weeks and months as we prepare to be a serious force in 2008 presidential campaigns.

Hi Richard,
I noticed this on Friday as I was updating the Alabama Official Results. I started to tally the votes for Nall, but noticed that there are gaps in the county write-in tally sheets. Were you able to find these from all AL counties?
Dave
Rich & Dave,
Not all counties tallied write-ins for individuals (nor are they required to); thus, explaining the “missing” counties.
In 2004, I was a write-in candidate and filed a declaration with the state. Lee County chose to not count any write in votes. Alabama probate judges pretty much do as they please with ballots.
