Instead of disqualifying a candidate to the extent that votes for them will not be counted, it would make more sense to, instead, prevent the disqualified candidate from taking office if they win. In other words, the position will be vacant and the regular procedure for filling vacancies (which in some cases would be a special election, and in other cases would be an appointment) should apply.
