On June 12, John Hospers died at the age of 93. He had been the Libertarian Party’s first presidential candidate. He ran in 1972, and only appeared on the ballot in two states, but he made history by receiving an electoral vote. Thanks to Wayne Root for this news.
I guess that is two former LP nominees that have now passed on. Professor Hospers and Roger L. MacBride. RIP to both party pioneers.
Harry Browne also.
And Jim Lewis the 1984 Veep nominee. Wow! I hadn’t realized so many have left us!
DR. HOSPERS IS THE ONLY LIBERTARIAN CANDIDATE TO RECEIVE A ELECTORAL VOTE. HE WAS A GREAT AUTHOR AND HE WILL BE MISSED BY FREEDOM LOVING AMERICANS.WE CAN ALSO GIVE THANKS TO ROGER MACBRIDE FOR HAVING THE COURAGE TO VOTE FOR HOSPERS.
WAYNE ROOT IS MY CHOICE FOR 2012 HE IS GREAT
The LP got going due to the EVIL statism of the Donkey Johnson (Vietnam WAR) and the Elephant Nixon (more WAR along with wage and price controls, off the gold standard – total fiat junk paper money) — the EVIL bad old days of 1963-1974 — start of the cycle of major econ depressions due to govt deficits — 1975, 1983, 1992, 2003, 2009.
How about changing the party name ??? — always confused with liberal, libertine, librarian, etc. etc.
Any suggestions for a different name, Demo Rep?
Rest in peace, John Hospers. You were a great shining light for liberty. The libertarian movement lives on!
# 7 — just the super-obvious
Liberty Party — logo/symbol — Ms. Statue of Liberty
or perhaps Freedom Party — in contrast to the EVIL statist control freak Donkey/Elephant parties.
Condolences to the family and friends of a third party pioneer. We will always remain appreciative of all John Hospers did for the alternative party movement.
