On February 19, Arizona SB 1388 passed the Senate Elections Committee unanimously. It says that candidates for statewide office and legislature would be permitted to collect signatures electronically. In Arizona, all candidates for partisan office (except presidential candidates running in a presidential primary) need petitions, whether they are aiming at a primary ballot or the general election ballot.
The bill has 9 sponsors, one Democrat (Steve Farley), and these eight Republicans: Richard Crandall, Michele Reagan, Steve Pierce, Bob Worsley, Adam Driggs, Chester Crandell, Steve Yarbrough, and Kimberly Yee.
Very good. Now, let’s take it one more step and have electronic voting straight from your own home as an option. Every American citizen only has to establish they are a qualified voter once in their lives and they get their Voting PIN.
I believe Ross Perot was advocating something similar back in ’92 or ’96.
A credit card can be used anywhere in the world with near 100% accuracy. I would suggest that we develop a voting system that works in the same manner. Kiosks could be sponsored and set up in businesses, shopping malls, etc. or you could access through a computer or smart phone. This would allow greater participation and finance the entire process. An electronic voter card and a pin could be issued and digitally linked to your local ballot. No more absentee or paper ballots and less likelyhood of fraud.
