According to this story in the New York Post, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, once a generous patron of both the statewide Independence Party, and the New York city Republican Party, doesn’t plan to give those parties any more contributions. Bloomberg is a registered independent.
He didn’t get to be a billionaire about being dumb about where to spend his money. Why would he care about funding a political party when he doesn’t need their ballot line anymore? He can spend his money in more productive ways, backing candidates and issues and arts and social welfare organizations he likes.
Bloomberg will contribute to a political party again only if it will help pass legislation that he supports.
There’s a New York City Republican Party?
