Justice Party National Steering Committee to Meet

The Justice Party has a meeting via conference call for members of its National Steering Committee, on October 5, 2013, to discuss the party’s future. The party only polled 43,018 votes for President in 2012, and it is only ballot-qualified currently in Florida, Mississippi, and Vermont. However, it won two ballot access cases (in California and Vermont) and has a third pending in Hawaii.

The party had some publicity recently in Wyoming. This Star-Tribune story mentions that a Justice Party activist has moved to Wyoming and hopes to organize the party in that state.

  1. I implore anyone involved with the Justice Party who may be reading this to do yourself a favor and join the Green Party of the United States.

  2. @Will I think the JP and the GP diverge on some issues…but yeah, in general I think the left should organize into one big umbrella party like the Greens or potentially a “Progressive Party” like in the early 1900s to really try and gain political clout. (Not that I agree with progressives; I’m about as libertarian as they come. I just think that strategically it makes more sense for lefties to try and join forces.)

  3. The only “Progressive Party” of the early 1900s was that of Teddy Roosevelt which was created in 1912 for his Presidential campaign and in no way was it a “one big umbrella party”. From 1901 to 1920 almost all of the left belonged to the Socialist Party of America.

After 1912 the Progressive Party withered and died with most of its members rejoining the conservative Republican Party.

In 1924 another, different Progressive Party ran Robert La Follette, Sr. for President and in 1948 a third Progressive Party ran Henry Wallace for President.

None of these “Progressive” parties ever achieved the nationwide success of the Socialist Party.

  4. While I’m not one to deny their right to free political speech…I’m puzzled as to why they felt the need to start up a political party that is so similar (at least when I saw Rocky Anderson and Jill Stein in the same debate, ie, Free and Equal and Democracy Now!’s debates) to the Green Party.
    It’s just puzzling to me.

  5. I’m puzzled why people who support the Green Party, who have for over 20 years fought for adding their voice to the political system, are so keen to stop any other alternative voice? I view these actions on par of what the Dems and GOP have done to the Greens. I support the Justice Party because they want to move beyond the ‘support my party or get out’ thinking. Ironically, many people who are joining the Justice Party are frustrated X-Greens. In my book, there is enough space in our country to allow for the Justice Party and any other new party to rise up to challenge the duopoly. So I will continue to go to Justice Party events and welcome Independents, Greens, former Dems and moderates and centralist. A broad-base party that is focused on WINNING elections to create change is what I am after; not a niche party that can only point to electoral success outside of America. p.s. Which Green Party? http://www.gp.org ?? http://www.greenparty.org ?? Seems like someone needs to get their house in order. So, I implore anyone involved with the Green Party to acknowledge that America has not embraced your party’s leadership and walk on over to the JP. You will be welcomed and embraced.
