Public Policy Polling released these results on July 8, for President, Governor, and U.S. House, inside North Carolina’s 8th U.S. House district:
For President, Obama 43%, McCain 39%, Barr 7%, other and undecided 11%.
For Governor, Perdue (Dem.) 43%, McCrory (Rep.) 38%, Munger (Libt.) 6%, other and undecided 13%.
For U.S. House, Hayes (Rep. incumbent) 43%, Kissell (Dem.) 36%, Hill (Libt.) 7%, other and undecided 14%.
The North Carolina 8th district is one of the most competitive anywhere in the United States. In 2006, it re-elected its Republican congressman by 329 votes. It consists of part of Charlotte and the counties east of Charlotte. Thanks to Daniel Finegold-Sachs for the link.
Note that in the crosstabs, 6% of Democrats will vote for Barr, and 5% of Republicans will vote for Barr. This is evidence against the very widespread notion that Libertarian votes “come from” Republicans.
Praise God for options. Praise Him even further for GOOD options. As much as is possible I will never again vote for a Republican or Democrat.
What does it take for Libertarians to win ballot access…what per cent of the vote?
The vote test for a party to remain on in North Carolina is that it get 2% for either president, or Governor. Governor is only elected in presidential years. If a party gets on in a mid-term year, it is automatically also on for the next election as well. So if either Barr or Munger gets 2%, the LP will be on automatically in 2010 and 2012.
Libertarians offer a genuine choice. According to the US GAO, the United States is headed for a financial collapse on its present democratic or republican print more money, spend more money and ship this money and the productive manufacturing equipment out of America. Sixty nine trillion dollars is the debt ($69,000,000,000,000) including medicare and rising with the increasing baby boom retiring population. As a percentage of GNP it is rising with an outta control Bush Administration using this debt to further its wars elsewhere. The public needs to know that their retirement and medicine will be wiped out by the present “stay the course” and “change the Administrators” of the chugging along executive and legislative branch.
