According to this story, the new American Party of South Carolina, a centrist party, has a bigger student group at Winthrop University than either of the two major parties do. Winthrop University is in Rock Hill, and has existed since the 19th century, and is considered the best-ranked university in the state. Thanks to David Gillespie for the link.
I know it’s not intentional, but the headline is a little misleading. They may have more members at a particular college, but the headline reads as if this were across South Carolina.
Also, as a Paladin myself, I’ve got to say that Furman University is generally viewed as the best ranked college in the state.
In the South during recent years, Furman University graduates have earned more Ph.D. degrees than those from any other southern private liberal arts college, according to a survey conducted by the University of Chicago’s National Opinion Research Center. Furman was ranked no. 2 in The Daily Beast’s 2011 edition of “Most Rigorous Colleges in America” and no. 13 on Newsweek’s list in 2012.
Who graduated from Furman? On John Watson, the father of behaviorism. And Charles Townes, the inventor of the maser. What’s a maser you ask? Well…it’s a crappy laser, but that’s still awesome!
