The Mississippi ballot access case, on behalf of the Natural Law Party and Brian Moore, will be Thursday, September 25, at 9:30 a.m. in U.S. District Court in Jackson. The Illinois ballot access case, on behalf of independent U.S. House candidate Allan Stevo, will also be on September 25 in the morning, in the 7th circuit, in Chicago.
Although no date has been set for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court hearing in the Republican appeal to remove Bob Barr from the ballot, the briefs are due October 2. Both sides must file simultaneous briefs. Obviously the brief for Bob Barr will include the recent Massachusetts opinion.
WILL THIS CASE EFFECT THE PROHIBITION PARTY?
No, the Prohibition Party did not turn in all of its signatures in Mississippi on the deadline day. Some of them were turned in on the Monday afterwards. Brian Moore, by contrast, turned in all his paperwork on the deadline Friday. The reason he is being kept off is that the paperwork was turned in at 5:10 p.m. However, the statutue giving the deadline just specifies the day, not the hour.
Why would you wait until the last day and 5:10 p.m
to turn in paperwork that could have been turned in before? Wouldn’t it be wiser to turn in earlier in case there are any problems?
Isn’t also other problems with the paperwork?
VALID POINT JOE BUT IN MS THE SIGNATURES HAVE TO BE CHECKED BY THE COUNTY CIRCUIT CLERKS AND THEY DRAG THEIR FEET.THIS IS SAD BUT TRUE, I WORED IN 3 DIFFRENT BALLOT DRIVES IN MS. 1976,1980,1984. THE CIRCUIT CLERKS ARE REALLY DEDICATED PUBLIC SERPANTS.
