The Los Angeles Times has this story about the California write-in candidates who placed second in the June 2014 primary. In all cases, a write-in candidate only placed second when only one candidate had filed to be on the June ballot for that office. The only three minor party candidates who will be on the California general election ballot this year were write-ins who ran in such races. They include one Peace & Freedom candidate for U.S. House, one Libertarian for Assembly, and one American Independent Party member for Assembly.
I not so rashly predict that NONE of the 3 WI folks will get elected in the gerrymander districts involved.
However such 3 districts will have an above average percentage of NON-votes.
P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.
I just spoke to Mark Seidenberg, the Chair of the American Independent Party of California, and he said that the American Independent candidate won in San Diego.
Fortunately, the first California Mock Unity Coalition is coming together nicely and the voting in San Diego hasn’t yet begun. We will be trying to connect people on the national, state and county levels in San Diego.
Give us a call if you’d like to participate; we welcome all and you need not be a resident of California.
