Joseph D. Morrissey, who was re-elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2013 as a Democrat, recently resigned, so there will be a special election to fill his seat on January 13, 2015. However, Morrissey is running in the special election as an independent. He has apparently filed enough signatures to be on the ballot, even though he only had a few days to collect them. See this story.
This will turn out to be a very interesting race. Will be interesting to see how Mr. Morrissey campaigns if he is jailed confined. Radio, T.V. and internet ads can help but people still like to see and meet the candidates.
Well you just never know. Keith Judd took over 40% of the West Virginia Democrat presidential primary vote from Obama from his jail cell in 2012. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/why-felon-keith-judd-did-so-well-against-obama-in-west-virginia/2012/05/09/gIQA7GwtCU_blog.html
Yes, I recall. But keep in mind, It was who Keith Judd was running against, which resulted in his 40% of the vote. Mr. Morrissey is running against himself – and what he is accused of doing. Quite a difference. Still will be interesting to see how many friends he has left. But then again, that may be hard to judge, as there will be so many people who will see his name on the ballot and not even be aware of what has happened. They’ll just think its election time again, and time to vote again.
We may be surprised in the 3 way race as to how many votes he may get.
