The Wall Street Journal of December 8 has this interesting explanation of the controversy in Canada over the government’s initial attempt to end public campaign funds for political parties (an idea which has now been dropped), and why Canada’s parliament is blocked from meeting until January 2009. Thanks to the Electionlawblog for the link.
Interesting summary. I dont’ buy the author’s BS about increased instability in Canadian leadership, given the high instability associated with a minority government.
I heard about this and asked a Canadian friend about it, and she gave me an earful about the problems Harper is facing.
It is an interesting exercise in politics to see a parliamentary system with multiple parties at work, to say the least.
