Minnesota Passes Bill that Restricts Circulation of Party Petition to One Year

On May 17, the Minnesota legislature passed an omnibus election law bill, SF 455. Among other things, it says the party petition can only be circulated for one year. The old law lets a group take as long as it wishes to complete the petition. The bill provides that the group would choose its own one-year period.

  1. The Minnesota petition for an unqualified party to gain full party ballot access was already so difficult that nobody has been able to complete that petition in several decades.
