Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin is on the ballot in eleven states, and those ballots list Nathan Johnson as his vice-presidential running mate. But the McMullin campaign has been unwilling to tell the press anything about Johnson. A reporter for the McClatchy newspaper chain then did his own investigation, and his story says that Johnson lives in San Diego and is not willing to tell the press much about himself. McMullin says if any of his presidential elector candidates are elected, they will vote for Mindy Finn for vice-president.
The reporter also says McMullin will probably receive several million votes.
“several million votes”
Utah and Idaho combined don’t have that many voters.
I don’t think McMullin will receive several million votes. 300,000-400,000 seems more like it. If he has a good day. It really is a shame for Gary Johnson that he’s doing this. I think that’s a big part of why he’s doing this.
I agree with Clay. Win or lose, the Republican Party will never be the same. McMullin is trying to make the post-election Republican party a party of social conservatives. He also wants the party to remain intact, and not have its members move en masse to the Libertarian party.
He meant to say that McMullin will receive several votes.
Under Texas law, a write-in vote for President and Vice President may be made by specifying either or both candidate’s names. If both, they must be consistent.
So is a write-in vote for “Johnson” a vote for McMullin/Finn or Johnson/Weld?
And what about a vote for Finn.
BTW, there was an interesting article about Mindy Finn, who grew up Houston (Kingwood), in the Houston Chronicle.
