The U.S. Supreme Court will hear Gill v Whitford, 16-1161, on Tuesday, October 3. This is the case in which the lower 3-judge U.S. District Court invalidated Wisconsin’s legislative district boundaries as an unconstitutional partisan gerrymander. Thanks to Rick Hasen for this news.
Expect a zillion briefs from all of the usual left/right extremist suspects.
For newer folks-
a State/local legislative body exists ONLY because all of the Electors/Voters can not meet in person and vote on stuff – bills, resolutions, etc.
The remedy since the 1840s (repeat 1840s) has been P.R.
— regardless of all the hacks and morons who love pack/crack AREA gerrymanders and minority rule —
1/2 or less votes x 1/2 rigged districts = 1/4 or less CONTROL = Oligarchy.
