Libertarian Party Nominees Will be Listed First on South Dakota November 2018 Ballot

On August 17, the South Dakota Secretary of State conducted the usual procedure to determine randomly the order of party nominees on the November ballot. The Libertarian Party will be listed first, followed by the Republican Party. This article describes that, and also has details about why the Constitution Party won’t be on the ballot.

  1. Again – ballots
    half A-Z
    half Z-A

rotate start/end letter per election —

to END the Donkey Voter effect —

top candidates get an extra X percent – solve for X.

  2. How many states even do it this way? Not to encourage Demo Rep, but it should be rotated random order. Not that I am complaining seeing as how I expect to be listed at the top of every ballot in the state of Oklahoma in November.

  3. Not sure if the random stuff had a major effect in the recent primary in the ex-Conyers USA Rep gerrymander district —

short vacancy term and reg term — result- different Donkey winners in a certain Donkey district

    would need precinct major work

  4. Chris, the Demo Rep system, half A to Z and half Z to A, is good for randomly mixing up names and there are many variations.

In California the system is more random, the names or parties get randomised, and each county might have differing order.

The smothering part of elections is single-winner districts. No matter how you mix it up, the two biggest parties will hand the wins back and forth, with rare wins by 3rd parties and independents.

So we must go to two-member districts and yours would be one should OK have Lt. Gov. on the ballot.

Bring attention to Lt. Gov. and highlight making elections
fair for the opposite gender (half the voters) and more people will like your campaign, especially if we can somehow put our opposite gender ahead of our own.

For example, female candidate at top of ballot (not you), with consecutively alternating ranked genders thereafter.

The humble message is being #2, and bringibg fairness is a better way to attract votes, because we’re not just looking after oursrlves, but we’re looking to make thing fair and best for all voters.

  5. Chris, if you don’t yet have a female candidate to promote before your own name, you may go ahead and promote the Herd/Ogle team, we are a cool Libertarian and cool Green, two males united to get a female on our ticket.

There is already at least one female Green and one female Libertarian, two 2020 POTUS candidates, that you can promote in your campaign for Governor.

Maybe ask voters to join us, the voters will pick the team, in 2020, but if you promote that in your campaign maybe it will help your message?

For example, you can be defensive that your on top if ballot, that men want women on top, and in 2020 we may not be so lucky because a female might not make it?

  6. @Joogle,

See the June 5 primary/special election for Senate District 32 where the (different) winners were determined by the random drawing.

  7. James, can you show me where your methods have been a “better way to attract votes” in state-run elections? If you mean a better way in the sense that you find it to be more appealing to your sensibilities, well, that’s nice. If you mean a better way in that it will result in receiving more votes for public office in the United States, I’ve seen nothing to indicate that to be the case.
