Libertarian Appointed to City Council of Dougherty, Oklahoma

David Greer, a registered Libertarian, has been appointed to the city council of Dougherty, Oklahoma. The post is non-partisan. The term is up in 2020. As far as is known, he is the first member of the Oklahoma Libertarian Party to hold elective public office. Thanks to Chris Powell for this news. The appointment was made in August 2018 but it only now came to my attention.

  1. Some folks never heard about a VACANCY in an elective office

    – esp. USA Senate [17 Amdt] and State/Local elective offices.

Candidate/incumbent replacement lists – legis bodies.

  2. Casual Observer,
For some offices the state law allows someone to be appointed to fill a vacancy. I served on a local elected board in California and one of the other members resigned his seat about a year into his four-year term. The law allowed the remaining four of us on the board to appoint someone to fill the vacancy. There was a public notice to fill the vacancy and those interested had to apply by a certain date and were interviewed by the four remaining board members. We also heard comments from the public on behalf of the various applicants. The person chosen however had to run for that seat at the next regularly scheduled election in just over a year – they did not get to fill the seat for the remaining original term of four years.
I hope this answers your question.

  3. The Libertarian Party will be quadrupling in size as the United Coalition brings pure proportional representation (PPR) to the California Libertarian Party and the Green Party is joining their dues system while bringing half the Electors (279 of 538) will be non-dues payers elected in every state and consisting of all parties and independents.

Normally, only percieved millionaires may run for President, and normally the Libertarian Party only wants free speech for the rich. No free participation can be welcomed by them because they cannot calibrate election thresholds up and down while including non dues-payers.

The United Coalition is bringing 50/50 balance between Libertarians, Greens and the 100%, half dues payers and half free, for 538 Electors nation-wide.
