California State Senator Scott Wiener has a bill, SB 288, to allow the Democratic Party to allow non-citizens to serve on its committees. The Peace & Freedom Party has asked that the bill be amended to include PFP as well, and that amendment will be made when the legislature reconvenes.
In California, as in about half the states, some party officers are elected at the party’s primary. Members of county central committees are elected by primary voters, and for some California parties, those county central committees comprise the state central committee. The bill originally said that non-citizens can be elected, but it has been amended to say non-citizens can be appointed, and that it is the intent of the legislature to later also allow them to be elected, if the party agrees. The Party hack committees may be involved in filling vacancies in candidates or even public offices.

Considering that non-citizens are barred from voting, and donating to political campaigns, why would they want them to serve on political party committees, when this means that they could influence how a party spends its money, platform planks, etc…? Could it be that this is part of their globalist “New World Order” agenda to further subvert, and eventually eliminate, the US Constitution, in favor of global totalitarian socialism?
Andy, if I recall correctly, foreign nationals who hold green cards can participate in U.S. election campaigns (they just can’t vote).
Richard, if this bill is not limited to green card holders (or however the federal law is worded), would it therefore be in conflict with federal law? Serving on a party committee certainly constitutes trying to influence elections.
What is meant by participating? Does this include donating to political campaigns?
I heard that this bill in CA does not make a distinction between Green Card holders and non-Green Card holders, but I would have to look into it more to be sure.
