  2. Mississippi elected an independent to the House and narrowly missed electing another. Both were incumbent Democrats who decided to run as independents.

Angela Cockerham was re-elected from HD-96, which is the portion of Mississippi north of the Florida parishes of Louisiana. Cockerham who was first elected in 2005, and was rated the most conservative Democrat in the House.

Steve Holland was defeated in HD-16, which included portions of Tupelo. He had been a representative since 1984 (35 years). In 2017 he made a personal privilege speech where he revealed he was diagnosed with dementia and would not be seeking re-election. His opponent, Rickey Thompson, was a judge who was removed from office, but re-elected and removed again. Holland, regarded as a liberal decided not to face Thompson in the Democratic primary. Holland said he had a good day job as a funeral director. Elvis took a ballot selfie, but it came out ghostly as if overexposed.
