The Independent Party of West Virginia has a website and has announced the date and location for its April 2021 state convention. See here.
The party believes it is ballot-qualified, based on the write-in vote Marshall Wilson received for Governor in November 2020. He was a registered member of the Independent Party at the time of the election. Thanks to Jeff Becker for the news.
It is my understanding that the venue is still up in the air. But it will most certainly be centrally located. Last weekend’s planning session was in Weston in Lewis county – close to the middle of our state. The issue we are facing is that the Draconian Covid regulations are requiring us to secure a venue more than twice the size of what we actually need, thus a tremendously increased up front cost. Keep checking the website.
BTW, Yeah, we now know that that logo silhouette is of a grizzly, not a black bear – West Virginia state animal. We are changing it.
“The party believes it is ballot-qualified, based on the write-in vote Marshall Wilson received for Governor in November 2020.” While the party may believe this what does the state elections department think? Isn’t that what really matters?
As far as I know, there has not yet been a response from the WVSOS. And I do not yet know what the leadership’s plan is for eliciting one. But I hope to know something within the next few weeks. Stay tuned.
Based on the Pritt v. Hechler decision from 1994 (concluding statement), we think we have all the bases covered for party qualification. https://www.casemine.com/judgement/us/5914bddfadd7b049347a4f98 Thanks to Richard for directing us to this pertinent decision.
Any Trumpy Bear logos yet ???
BTW, Our latest voter registration figures are 38,400 out of a total of 1,269,455 which works out to 3.02%. That’s a FULL THREE percent, not three tenths or hundredths, mind you.
