Law professor Rick Hasen, editor of the Election Law blog, says Democrats are unlikely to pass HR One (the election law bill in Congress), whether the filibuster is eliminated for voting rights bills or not. He doubts the bill can get even 50 votes in the U.S. Senate. He recommends breaking the bill into separate bills. See his reasoning here.
I like certain parts of the bill.
This is how it’s done, nowadays. People don’t have patience for piecemeal legislation, so they stuff eveything they want into an “omnibus” bill, and then ram it thru on the thinnest of majorities at the most opportune moment.
I don’t see much if any of it at all getting through the senate no matter how it gets chopped up.
