Vietnam Holds National Assembly Elections on May 23

This article says that Vietnam is holding a national assembly election on May 23, and that 92% of the candidates listed on the ballots are Communist Party members. Some independents are allowed to run, but they must be approved by a group that is largely controlled by the Communist Party.

  4. Actually Freddy is right about Massachusetts. The vast majority of candidates for all offices are Democrats. Republicans, independents and other parties have to run a gauntlet of petition and report filings to qualify. Only a handful make it; never enough to change the outcome of the election. Many offices go uncontested.
