Nevada Voter Files Lawsuit in Nevada State Court to Block Top-Five Initiative

On December 6, a Nevada voter, Nathaniel Helton, filed a lawsuit in state court to block an initiative that recently started to circulate for a top-five primary system. Helton v Nevada Voters First PAC, First Judicial District Court, Carson City, 21oc-001721B. See this news story, which has a link to the Complaint. Thanks to Fairvote for the link.

The lawsuit charges that the initiative violates the single-subject rule, because it eliminates party nominees, and it also provides for ranked choice voting in general elections. The lawsuit also charges that the Nevada Constitution requires initiatives that cost money to identify a funding source, and that the initiative fails to identify a new funding source.

  1. Now standard machination to STOP all election reforms.

What govt stuff does NOT cost money ???

  2. If the “minor parties” cannot get a candidate past a primary in the “makrketplace of ideas” in an election, they may want to re-think their existence! Currently the ones in CA are proving to be a PATHETIC WASTE OF BALLOT SPACE (Libertarians, Peace and Freedon, Green, and American “Independent”!).

  3. ANTI-DEMOCRACY Gerrymander Math 00001 16 DEC 2021

1/2 or less votes x 1/2 rigged packed/cracked SINGLE MEMBER DISTRICTS

= 1/4 or less CONTROL = oligarchy – with monarch tyrants.

    Super worse primary math.

Voters vote — NOT census pops.

  4. SUDCCIV is right. Waste of space parties should be crushed ruthlessly. Only winners should be allowed to run, and unpopular opinions should be brutally suppressed.

  5. Top five is a bad idea. If independents want to vote in a primary pick a side. You are either for young children being taught gender fluidity or you are not. You are either for an open border or you are not. You are either for punishing criminals or you are not. You are either for $6.00 gas or you are for being energy independent. You are either for 3 year olds wearing masks in on plane or you are not. Pick a side. Follow the money to see who is behind this.
