Georgia Libertarian Nominee for Lieutenant Governor Sues Over Unequal Contribution Limits

In Georgia, nominees for Governor and Lieutenant Governor may receive unlimited donations if they are the nominees of a party that polled 20% of the vote in the last election for president in the entire U.S., or for Governor of Georgia. But other nominees for Governor and Lieutenant Governor are limited to receiving contributions no greater than $7,600.

On September 8, the Libertarian nominee for Lieutenant Governor, Ryan Graham, filed a federal lawsuit, challenging the unequal treatment. Graham v Carr, n.d., 1:22cv-3613. It is assigned to U.S. District Court Judge Mark H. Cohen, an Obama appointee. Here is the Complaint. UPDATE: here is a news story.

  1. I wish this site would have more articles about the ways that minor party and independent candidates are prejudiced by campaign finance laws. I think it’s a bigger problem than ballot access.

  2. The print edition of Ballot Access News does do that. Subscriptions are only $18 per year, for 12 issues. If you want to subscribe, I would be pleased. Send a check made out to Ballot Access News to PO Box 470296, San Francisco Ca 94147.

  3. This site claims not to censor political views, yet did censor my earlier reply. If you want to know who controls you, look who you are not allowed to criticize.

  4. Sorry, I didn’t save it, and don’t know what that is. There are no shortage of places on the internet where I can post it. I’m more interested in the hypocrisy of this sites owner, saying unambiguously that no political opinion would be censored here not long ago, and then turning around and deleting mine because he finds it distasteful.

  5. Feel free to post it where you wish. I spoke plain truth that you can read any number of places, nothing particularly original or well put. I believe the hypocrisy of the ownership here has been established, and that speaks more eloquently than anything I could ever say and proves the truth of the censored statement beyond any doubt.
