Proposed Constitutional Amendment for Congressional Term Limits Introduced

On January 26, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) introduced a proposed constitutional amendment for term limits for members of Congress. Here is the text. Thanks to Michael Drucker for the link.

Starting in 1995, most sessions of Congress have had such proposed amendments. Cruz himself introduced the same one in each of the last three sessions of Congress.

  1. Term limits are voter censorship. They remove eligibility to receive votes in an election even if the person is the most preferred to hold office by the most voters. Term limits do nothing to break the hold of the duopoly parties on the government.
The solution to end the self-entrenched duopoly is more choices for voters not fewer. Yes, term limits are backdoor ballot access laws to ban persons who are constitutionally eligible to serve if wanted by constitutionally eligible voters.
In my opinion, term limit laws serve to entrench unelected elites in power. That is a characteristic of fascism.

  2. MOST DANGER FROM A-N-Y [ LONG[ER] ] TERM LEGIS ??? / EXECS ??? / JUDICS ???

    NONE ??? / 1 ??? / 2 OF 3 ??? / 3 OF 3 ???

    based on world political history.

LEGISLATIVE TERM LIMITS = WORSE EXEC/JUDIC LAWLESS TYRANTS.

TERM LIMIT FOR EXECS. [ JUDICSĀ ???] >>> CAN NOT HOLD OFFICE IN NEXT TERM OF THE OFFICE

    — IE INVESTIGATE/PROSECUTE ALL ILLEGAL ACTS/OMISSIONS IN TERM.

  3. I do not consider term limits to be a great savior, but I am generally in favor of them because the longer politicians are in office the more corrupt and more arrogant they get, and they also get bigger name recognition, and more entrenched with special interest groups, which enables them in getting elected over and over again.

  4. Casual Observer – I do favor repeal of the presidential term limit amendment provided ballot access censorship is totally abolished and the independence of Presidential Electors to choose unabridged. Impeachment of a president is a term limit.

  5. IMPEACHMENT STUFF –

ONE MORE FATAL CARRYOVER SOP VIOLATION FROM OLD BRIT REGIME-
OFTEN ALSO AD HOC EX POST FACTO VIOLATION

  6. The issue is best left up to each state. A better constitutional amendment would be to recognize the authority of states to recall and limit the terms of their members of Congress

  7. And, it might even be a good idea to authorize each state to determine the pay of its own members of Congress.
