Florida Senator Blaise Ingoglia (R-Spring Hill) has introduced SB 1248. It would cancel the party recognition of any political party that had ever supported slavery. If it were enacted, the Democratic Party could get back on the ballot only by choosing a new name. Also it would lose all its registrants and need to start from zero. See this story. Ironically, in 2019 a Democratic State Senator introduced a bill in California, SB 696, that would have removed the American Independent Party from the ballot unless it changed its name. It passed the legislature, but Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed it.
I am of two minds regarding this. On the one hand, anything that hurts the evil demon rats is good, no matter the pretext. On the other, slavery was a good thing which brought the light of Jesus to many millions of souls and gave them and their descendants a much better life than those still in Africa today, but bad for the White people in the long run. On balance, legal chattel slavery is not about to come back in the US, and if that changed enough other things would change to repeal this law or make it irrelevant. As a practical matter, anything which helps Republicans today and hurts Democrats is good, just as before FDR presidency it was the other way around. So let’s all support this bill!!!
The bill violates the First Amendment. Communist Party of Indiana v Whitcomb, a unanimous decision from the US Supreme Court in 1974, said states can’t keep parties off the ballot based on the ideas of those parties. So even if the Democratic Party still supported slavery, the bill would be struck down if it passed.
You are presuming the present Supreme Court will not reverse precedents from the 1970s? Try asking a few abortuaries in noncommie states how that’s working out for them.
I hope the bill passes into law and the side of evil (left side) sues on that basis, and takes it all the way to the Supreme Court, where I expect and hope the new law stands. That will open the door for all Republican trifecta and legislative veto proof supermajority states to start banning all leftist parties including the demon rats. Let them retaliate. Advantage GOP.
