Florida Senate Passes Bill Repealing “Resign to Run” law for Presidential and Vice-Presidential Candidates

On April 26, the Florida Senate passes SB 7050, an omnibus election law bill. The bill includes a provision repealing the “resign to run” law for presidential and vice-presidential candidates. Assuming the bill is signed into law, this means Governor Ron DeSantis can run for president in 2024 without the fear that he would be forced to resign as Governor in January 2025, even if he had not been elected president or vice-president.

Very few states have “resign to run” laws. They put office-holders who are in the middle of their terms at risk of losing their current job if they run for another job and fail to win it.

  31. To me, the best thing about bringing back Trump is the executive order he signed on his way out which reclassified tens of thousands of mid level federal bureaucrats as political appointees. Trump hasn’t wasted the stolen interim term either, as he has had people vetting the patriots who will replace these swamp creatures on day one as well as those above them based on personal loyalty to Trump and the true Trump agenda.

    This was the biggest reason TRUMP was stymied in the first term. All those reasons have now been addressed and the traitors identified. Desantis and others vying for the nomination don’t have this plan in the works, or the experience and resolve to implement it. Only TRUMP alone can save America and make it great again, as well as greater than ever before. Accept no substitutions. Maybe Desantis can be ready to move up some time in the future, but 2024 is definitely not his year yet.

  34. I voted Trump for President twice in the primary and twice in the general and same with DeSantis for Governor. But I’ve been seeing ads from Make America Great Again PAC and they make sense to me, and that’s also what polls say. So I’m going with Trump in 2024 and might consider DeSantis if he runs for President some time in the future and if Trump and MAGA folks are behind him. For now, he’s a good enough governor, and Trump has unfinished business as President.
