Iowa House Passes Bill Regulating Presidential Caucuses

On May 1, the Iowa House passed HF 716, which regulates presidential caucuses. It says only attendees can vote. This bill is intended to stop the Democratic Party’s plans for its 2024 caucuses, which would allow postal ballots. The bill is very likely unconstitutional under the U.S. Supreme Court decisions of the 1970’s and 1980’s that recognize political party autonomy. Thanks to Political Wire for the news about the bill’s progress.

  1. It’s worth noting the bill has been amended to say that only attendees can vote *if they are going first in the nation before any other presidential nominating contest*. This should give Democrats the flexibility they want for Iowa while ensuring that Republicans can remain first without New Hampshire deeming an early caucus to be a “primary.” Check ou the amended language here: https://www.legis.iowa.gov/legislation/BillBook?ga=90&ba=hf716

  3. Good parts:

    In person ONLY, standing count

Bad parts; there should not be a primary . The standing count by party should be the general election. Winning party picks peace officers for the precinct for the next year who also serve as judge, jury, and executioner.

No other elected office. One page written law interpreted and applied by responding officers.

Only other government : national defense military. Military governs itself and picks commander in chief.

  7. I’ve spent considerable time in both of the foreign nations you mention (United States and United Kingdom) and believe they would both benefit from the system I have proposed, just as we would in Russia and the other former Soviet Republics, all throughout Europe, and in all Christian, primarily European- descended nations of the world.

  8. I have no opinion as to how nations which are not majority Christian and European descended should govern themselves, except for countries like South Africa and Rhodesia which would benefit tremendously from a return to White rule and White supremacy, or at least Boer independence. However, the prospects for that in South Africa or anywhere else on that benighted continent are dim, like the faces of the majority population and the economic prospects of those nations.

  9. Charles looks like he will be a dull and dimwitted, weak king. With a nonwhite prime minister and endless delays to total brexit, the future of the UK could be in much better hands, such as Nigel Farage, were he to reenter politics. The good news on King Charles is that, being crowned at age 74, it’s unlikely he will sit on the throne nearly as long as his recently departed mum. However, the next generation of that monarchy does little to inspire either.

  10. Formally, the Iowa caucus system is to select the party officials at the precinct, county, and state level.

As a ploy to encourage participation, the presidential preference poll has been grafted onto the system. Instead of a handful of party activists choosing their neighbors Max and Pat to serve on the county central committee, the caucusgoers would take a poll of presidential preferences, and then choose county central committee members based on that.

So instead of Max or Pat, they might choose Bill, Jimmy, Mike, or Bernie because they said they supported Sanders, Dukakis, Carter, or Clinton. These persons might be totally uninterested in the workings of the party.

Because of the early date of the Iowa precinct caucuses, presidential candidates began coming to Iowa in the year before the presidential election to recruit caucus goers and caucus governors. Iowa increased revenue from hotel taxes, food taxes, and it provided private sector jobs for those catering to campaign workers and the press.

  11. I understand how their system works. However, my proposal is different. Where it is similar is that voting would be in person, standing count. That is about the only similarity.

For one thing, there would be only one level of voting, at the precinct level. For another, the only elected office would be peace officers, who would be a combination of law enforcement officer, judge, jury, and executioner. Lastly, there would be no primary; the voting would be by party, and the winning party would select peace officers.

As for President, the only function for government I see needed outside of local precinct law enforcement is a national defense military. That can operate same as at present, but I see no reason for civilian voting on the commander in chief. It would seem natural for the admirals and generals to pick one, perhaps with some input from lower ranks.

Other aspects of current government seem to me to be things government should not do at all. Churches, charities, businesses, extended families, civic organizations, etc should do the vast majority of what government does. Much of it can and should be handled within the patriarchal family household.

It also seems to me to be completely insane to have volumes of written laws which are far too numerous, complex, and frequently revised for a normal man to memorize and understand, yet everyone is responsible for not violating these laws. Instead, laws should be simple enough for a normal man to understand, commit to memory, and pledge allegiance to, and should very rarely if ever change. How they apply to any situation responding peace officers encounter should be up to peace officers to determine.

Another aspect of current government which strikes me as out of whack is the warehousing and coddling of criminals, at great cost to taxpayers. Punishment for crimes should be swift, sure, and extremely severe. For major crimes it should usually be an immediate, summary execution. For notorious crimes, it should be a public execution within a day or small number of days to get word of the impending entertainment to be spread. For minor crimes it should involve punishments such as whipping and indentured servitude. This should ensure that crime would be much more rare.

  12. HOW MANY INNOCENT FOLKS KILLED BY GOVTS DUE TO PLANTED FALSE EVIDENCE AND LIARS – PRIVATE AND ESP GOVT KILLERS —GETTING RID OF ANTI-GOVT FOLKS ???

ALSO PART OF THE CURRENT ROT –
PUBLIK SKOOOLS N-O-T TEACHING ABOUT LAWS- CIVIL AND CRIMINAL, EARLY ON – ESP LAWS REGARDING FORCE.

    NOOO DEATH PENALTY PUNISHMENTS.

  13. The occasional execution of the innocent may be regrettable, but should be balanced against the right to life, liberty, property, and pursuit of happiness of crime victims, their friends, neighbors, and family, and those living in fear of crime, as well as taxpayers and property owners tasked with paying for the costs of dealing with it.

As for incentives to keep peace officers in check I discussed those on another recent forum topic. I shall attempt to fetch the link, but the system here allows those to post only some of the time. Wish me luck.

  14. In the meantime, here is yet another reminder that CNN is fake news.

  15. As for government schools, those should quite simply not exist. Your American population was considerably more literate, learned, and well read prior to the advent of government schools. Their early proponents were not in any way shy in admitting that their purpose was propaganda.

  16. Finally for now, what good would it do for any schools, government or otherwise, to teach the laws when they constitute shelf after shelf of thick volumes filled with arcane jargon that it takes a whole well paid, post tertiary educated profession to constantly interpret, research, and revise? If that is not objectively insane, I don’t know what is.

Laws should indeed be something simple enough to teach children in school and have them understand and memorize. That is, in fact, precisely what I am proposing. However, it is very far from being the case in any nation that I know of at present.

  17. DEATH PENALTY FOR FOLKS IN THE MAXZIM UTOPIA/TYRANNY ???

    FOR ILLEGAL VOTING
    FOR ILLEGAL COUNTING OF VOTES
FOR ILLEGAL CERTIFICATIONS OF ELECTION OR ISSUES
    ETC ???

  18. Hardly. Nothing in my proposal is utopian, much less tyrannical.

There would be no such thing as illegal voting. The men voting would be well known to each other. They would all be multigenerational property owners in the precinct, Christian church goers, gun owners, fathers of children, physically and mentally qualified to serve as peace officers – in short, long standing local leaders. There would be no illegal or impostor voting.

The vote would be by standing count, and on the record. How each man voted would be published. They would be standing next to men they know well. There would be no possibility of any miscount.

Your objections have all been addressed numerous times in past discussions here. While disagreement is certainly understandable, indeed welcome if it is reasonably framed to help troubleshoot and vet the proposal, willful and repeated mischaracterization is a different matter. If there’s something you don’t understand, it would be far better if you ask questions to clarify, rather than shriek hysterically and presumptuously on the basis of such misunderstandings, if that is indeed what they are. The consistency of such hysterical and erroneous reactions indicates a far higher likelihood of argument in bad faith, incapacity for reasoned discourse, or both on the part of the interlocutor.

  19. CNN IS FAKE NEWS AND HAS NO CREDIBILITY. WHY DO YOU KEEP POSTING THEIR GARBAGE?

  20. EXACT DEFINITION OF ELECTOR IN THE MAXZIM UTOPIA REGIME ??? –

HOW MANY USA CONST AMDTS WOULD NEED TO BE REPEALED ???

  21. My guess is he’s so thoroughly manipulated by the leftist manipulators of public opinion that he’s unaware that it’s orchestrated manipulation and lies. It may be that he’s fully aware and one of the conscious manipulators, but it seems less likely.

  22. We’ve been over the voting qualifications previously. I’ll see if I can find you an old link. As also mentioned previously, your constitution would be moot. The only federal government would be the military. State government would not exist. The entire written law would be significantly shorter than your present constitution.

  23. I note a few errors. For one thing I referred to counties, whereas I should have said precinct. However, given the voting qualifications discussed, a precinct would probably be on the order of population of an average US county, e.g. ~100k, of whom perhaps ~100 would be the noble knight elite who would be qualified to vote.

Another error was my reference to government welfare, which under my proposal would not exist at all.

Lastly, I note my reference to the King James Bible, on the pessimistic assumption that your country would remain majority protestant. But since we are talking about an ideal order here, I may as well imagine wholesale conversion of your country to the true Church of Christ, the Russian Orthodox Church, and the Old Slavonic Bible.

  24. SLAVERY BAAAACK IN THE MAXZIM UTOPIA REGIME ???

OR MERELY NOOO *CIVIL/POLITICAL* *** RIGHTS, PRIVILEGES, IMMUNITIES *** —

ESP FOR ALL WOMEN AND ALL NON-WHITES ???

  25. Again, not utopia, and slavery never went away. Slavery is currently legal after conviction for a crime in your country. I see no reason for it to be otherwise. There would also be indentured servitude as a form of business contract.

Chattel slavery is rather unlikely to suddenly become viable economically in an industrial society, especially one with rapidly advancing robotics. Tax slavery would be greatly reduced under my proposal. Slavery to evil leftist mind manipulation, wokism, multiculturalism, etc., would be greatly reduced. Slavery to bureaucracy and communism, likewise.

Women would be largely freed of the slavery of being forced to do men’s job or otherwise have to fill roles naturally more suited to men. Whites would be freed from slavery to alien invaders and their offspring. Any nonWhites who would feel too encumbered by not being able to take over or lead White nations would be free to leave. Natives would have their own precincts where they would be self-governing, with no interference from White led government aside from head tax for national military defense. In all other aspects they could be self governing.

Why do you keep asking questions in a presumptuous and negative way, like some yellow “gotcha” journalist? As an exercise, try giving someone the benefit of the doubt for a change. I’ve given you the benefit of the doubt that you are merely the victim of leftist propaganda, not a conscious liar and manipulator. You, on the other hand, always start with an apparent presumption of bad faith. Are you perchance projecting your own flaws unto others?

  26. The rationale for the bill is that the Iowa Democratic Party is proposing to permit mail voting. If that happens, the New Hampshire SOS has said that he will move the date of the NH primary to be before the Iowa primary.

The Iowa Democratic Party should simply have a party financed primary in June.

  27. Within the context of the current system, I agree they should pay themselves. Mail voting is garbage, but if they pay for it themselves, that should be their business.
