Richard Winger blogged yesterday about Friday’s Ohio Supreme Court ruling allowing August 8, 2023 to be the date for a statewide election on amending the Ohio Constitution to require a 60% “Yes” vote on future proposed amendments to the Ohio Constitution to pass. There are other provisions that are part of the package to be voted on that will make it much harder to amend the Ohio Constitution and that are clearly designed to cement power in the state with the state legislature, which is currently dominated by the Republican Party.

What do you do?
The requirement to amend the US Constitution is not a simple majority, not even 60%, not even a single vote. The idea is that the highest law in the land shouldn’t be able to be changed as easily as subordinate laws.
Too much complexity. The highest law of any land is the Holy Bible. It can’t be amended. The next highest level of government should be the military.
All other aspects of federal or national level are unneeded, superfluous, or more likely counterproductive. They would be better handled by means other than government.
The military has its own code of justice. Not the same in each nation, but usually similar (mea culpa: I’ve not compared enough of them to say this with certainty, but it seems highly likely). I see no reason for civilian jurisdiction over military, or vice versa.
Local areas should have their own separate written laws, short and simple enough to memorize and understand, and very difficult but not impossible to change.
Below that, informal rules and suggestions which don’t carry the force of law, but are ultimately backed up by the law as a final arbiter or court of last resort. Despite being voluntary they would hold a lot of weight, because of that last part. No one will want to meet a peacekeeper in that official capacity.

Thou shall not murder, not thou shall not kill. The latter is a bad translation. Otherwise, defensive wars would not be allowed, and no country could withstand foreign attack. No revolution against tyranny would be permitted, including yours. No one could kill a criminal in self defense, no bystander or would be victim or officer or anyone else could stop an active shooter, no mass murderer could be executed, etc, etc – clearly not the code of conduct expected by God of the leaders of Biblical Israel or any others. Anyone capable of logic would realize the commandment is to not murder, not to not kill.
The military is entrusted to protect the nation. Every nation has to protect itself and it’s people. God tells us to protect our nation’s in the Bible.
Putin is defending the lives of Russians in Donbass and Crimea and other areas where Russians are the majority, which were administratively made part of Ukraine by Stalin, or in the case of Crimea by Khrushchev. They were never part of any independent Ukrainian nation before that, and not even part of any Ukrainian administrative area.
What is today Western Ukraine was never part of anything called Ukraine before the Great Patriotic War (what you call WWII – AZ would have had us not kill Nazi invaders, because of his ignorant misreading of a mistranslated biblical commandment; perhaps he thinks Hitler was as peaceful as Trump). These areas were part of Poland during its interwar independence, or the Austro-Hungarian empire, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Romania, etc.
The independent Ukrainian nation existed briefly in the early 1920s, and since the 1990s. Since the 1990s Ukraine has been one of the most corrupt regimes in the world. In 2014 they overthrew an elected President and installed a regime of neonazi fascists, Jewish Supremacists, and NATO/EU foreign agents working together corruptly to ethnically cleanse and oppress Russian residents of their occupied territories, oppress people of all ethnicities including their own, and live off foreign bribes.
Ukraine was never even an administrative region in Czarist Russia. It was the heart of Russia before Moscow. Even in the 19th century it was considered Little Russia and New Russia. The Ukrainian ethnicity and nation are basically a 20th century invention, with no significant history of independence before 1991. The Ukrainian language is essentially a local Russian dialect, exaggerated and forced to develop as a separate language by fascist separatists. It’s not even spoken by the majority in many parts of so called Ukraine, but Russian is spoken by everyone there.

The old testament has many other examples of sinners put to death for their crimes. The biblical refrain for those justly executed as punishment for their own crimes is their blood will be on their own heads. This expresses the idea that those guilty of certain actions have brought the shedding of blood upon themselves, and those carrying out due punishment do not bear bloodguilt.
The ancient Hebrew texts make a distinction between the moral and legal prohibition of shedding of innocent blood and killing in battle. Deuteronomy 20:10-18 establishes rules for killing civilians in war.

Cities inside the promised land: kill them all.
Exodus 22:2-3 makes it clear killing home invaders is justified homicide.
