Iowa Republicans Choose January 15 Caucus Date — 18 Comments

  1. 1. Fake news

    2. To hell with demon rats.

    3. If you are too much of a weakling to make it from your truck in the parking lot to the voting hall and back, stay home and don’t vote. It’s fine, it’s not for you.

    4. The electoral college is one of the safeguards against nationalization of political power and mob tyranny. Somehow AZZ refers federalist papers without seeming to have read, much less understand, their theses.

    5. It’s pretty dry in the winter and old people grew up before everyone younger turned to delicate special little snowflakes, so they know how to handle different kinds of weather, often a lot better than the young folks today. They also tend to know how to survive for minutes, hours, and sometimes even days without a phone in their hands and a blank gaze transfixed by the phone screen.

  2. DETROIT NOOSE IS ALSO DONKEY MACHINATION.

ANTIDEMOCRACY MINORITY RULE ACTUALLY CUTS DOWN ON EVIL VICIOUS LYNCH MOB RULE. LYNCH MOBS ARE PURE UNADULTERATED DIRECT DEMOCRACY. SO IS BOLSHEVISM. OR A PACK OF WOLVES AND A SHEEP VOTING ABOUT DINNER.

WITHOUT EC AND THE OTHER TWO BULWARKS, THERE WOULD BE AN EVEN MORE TYRANNICAL USA MOB TYRANNY REGIME, MORE FOREIGN WARS, AND MORE NATIONAL DEBT BANKRUPTCY AND INFLATION.

TO SEE WHY, LOOK NO FURTHER THAN AZ HIMSELF. HE WANTED WAR ON NEUTRAL NATIONS IN WWII. HE WANTED THE USA TO STAY IN AFGHANISTAN FOREVER. NOW HE WANTS USA TO GO TO WAR WITH RUSSIA OVER UKRAINE. HOW MANY OTHER WARS?

I GUESS WE WON’T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT DEBT OR INFLATION OR EVEN BANKRUPTCY IF WE’RE ALL A BUNCH OF RADIOACTIVE CORPSES. BUT AS LONG AS THE WAR IS FORMALLY DECLARED BY CONGRESS, IT’LL BE DEMOCRATIC, AND THAT’S THE MOST AND INDEED ONLY IMPORTANT THING!

  3. Trump proposals sound good, other than the feds building new cities. Developers should build developments, even new cities when market conditions demand it, not feds. As a former developer, he should know that. The other proposals sound excellent, although the header promised something about flying cars which I missed in the article. But then it’s CNN, so I really shouldn’t have even clicked on it.

  4. DO TROLL MORONS HAVE THEIR OWN VERY SPECIAL TROLLS UNITED ROTTED DAILY — TURD NEWS ???

ONLY THE TURD TRUTH AND NOTHING BUT THE TURD TRUTH ???

ESP IN LETTERS TO THE EDITOR ???

  5. Yes, a bunch of them, which are your usual “news” sources.

  6. I saw that the Republican Party rules allow Iowa to be one of the four states allowed to hold caucuses or primaries in February, instead of March through June like all other states — but the rules don’t allow Iowa to go in January. What justification does the Iowa Republican Party have for moving its caucus into January?

  7. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. 2016 and 2020 were in February. 2008 and 2012 were both January 3. 2004 was January 19. And so on.

  8. So looks like it could be any time in January or February. Has it ever been any other month? If so, when was the last time?

  9. It wasn’t considered a major event, and was poorly attended. I have not been able to find anything else so far. Apparently they tried primaries once, in 1916, and went right back to caucuses after the failed experiment. The first in the nation status was a reaction to Demonrats nomination chaos in 1968, when drug crazed impatient young communists, mostly upper middle and upper class university students and other draft dodgers, rioted outside the election hall and were pacified by working class police officers.

  10. @Bob,

Formally, the precinct caucuses are to elect county central committees and delegates to county conventions.

The Democrats grafted onto that a presidential preference. Instead of choosing Bob to represent the precinct on the county central committee, the McGovern faction might choose Bob.

The Republicans copied the idea. Because it was early in the election calendar it became more newsworthy. It also more susceptible to grass roots organizing. Instead of running TV ads encouraging voters to vote for them, it paid off to have precinct captains who would organize those who attended the caucus.
