See this story for information about a preliminary step the U.S. House has taken to raise congressional pay. Every time congressional pay rises, filing fees rise in many states that set the amount of the fee as a percentage of the office’s salary.

  1. Congress should ban filing fees for Congress along with segregated partisan primaries.

  2. I don’t really have a problem with the salary for a Representative in Congress being increased once in a while. But there should be some direct citizen involvement in the calculations.

    And, of course, they should pass term limits first. I’m sick of seeing people make careers in politics. But they should be allowed to serve long enough to work on a few pet projects. I think they should get about six or eight years at most.

    Fortunately the newest Constitutional amendment, the 27th, requires that all Congressional pay raises must be delayed until a Congressional election has passed. That gives the voters some small input into the process.

    For some reason, it only took this amendment 202 years to be ratified after it was first proposed in 1789

  6. Pay them with government cheese, but no more than the recommended daily allowance for themselves and immediate family (spouse and any children under 16 living at home).
