Caucuses are better, but it should be up to each party. States should have zero involvement with how parties select candidates, party officers, platforms, etc.
The faulty logic under which states have staged a hostile takeover of party nominations (for some parties) could be extended to party caucuses, PACs, interest groups, unions, clubs, issue organizations, media organizations, and any other type of entity which might endorse candidates, thus “impacting the election.”
There’s no end to the mischief which could be invented under this phony principle. People’s work schedules, how well their cars are running, availability of babysitters, the weather, and a million other things affect turn out, and therefore elections. Governments could stick their noses into anything and everything under the pretext that it has some sort of impact on elections. Can’t afford to live in the district you want to vote in? Election interference! I mean, think of the possible implications.
Then think about getting government out of party nomination processes. Parties can demonstrate they qualify for elections in any number of ways. Who they pick as candidates, or better yet officeholders if they win, should be up to the parties to decide internally.

It’s fiction, dolt. How many what dead? Luckily, no one on my farm is a communist. Not even the pigs.
