Lawsuit to block Trump from Colorado 2024 ballot survives more legal challenges

    CNN  —
A judge has rejected three more attempts by former President Donald Trump and the Colorado GOP to shut down a lawsuit seeking to block him from the 2024 presidential ballot in the state based on the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.”

The flurry of rulings late Friday from Colorado District Judge Sarah Wallace are a blow to Trump, who faces candidacy challenges in multiple states stemming from his role in the January 6, 2021, insurrection. He still has a pending motion to throw out the Colorado lawsuit, but the case now appears on track for an unprecedented trial this month.

    SCOTUS WAITS.

  5. CCPNN is fake news, Supreme court will shut down 14-3 desperation ploy nonsense against Trump, Trump will win bigger than ever before and be restored to his rightful office which was stolen from him in a landslide too huge for the commies to cheat their way out of without sparking a revolution.

  6. “Top Two is a wound in democracy and needs to be repealed. If Republicans don’t do that quickly, they might as well all move to Florida.”

Well, the Florida closed primary system is virtually the same as California in effect. Even worse, Florida’s version of Top Two applies to county-level elections for every major office.

  7. They actually should just all move to Florida. No electoral system is likely to fix the problems of the Kali-fornicated state in the foreseeable future, or even make a noticeable dent. It’s time for a multiracial equivalent of what was called “white flight” from the major cities a half century ago when it became clear the animals were taking over the zoo.

A humourous but accurate look at what leftist misrule is turning California into:

  8. There needs to be a ballot initiative to repeal Top Two Primary. I know one got filed in 2018 but it failed to make the ballot due to having no money to hire paid petition circulators. I would think that now that it is clearly apparent that Democrats in California benefit more from Top Two Primary than Republicans do, that lots of Republicans would want to donate to a campaign to repeal it.

  9. Not if they think it would just waste their money and lose. It’s also not clear it would always necessarily help Democrats. If there are four strong Democrats and two strong Republicans you might just as readily end up with two Republicans for the runoff, regardless of the wishes of most primary voters.

If things are even slightly as bad as in Realist’s video, I wouldn’t waste my money on a ballot proposal to change the voting system; I’d move my residence and any businesses or assets that could reasonably be moved to a state or country with relatively sane, conservative leadership. Very funny video regardless of how true or exaggerated it is.

  10. I think that a ballot initiative to repeal Top Two Primary would win in California. I have collected thousands of petition signatures in California and I have discussed Top Two Primary with lots of people there from different parts of the state and I never encountered anyone who said they like it.

  11. They have not been subjected to 50 million dollars worth of cynical carpet bomb ads from Charlie Munger about how “party bosses” and “MAGA Billionaires” and “Koch special interests” are trying to “silence the voice of the common people by taking away our open primaries” blah blah blah.

  12. It is true that advertising can influence people, and it was a well funded propaganda campaign and endorsements from big politicians from both major parties which led to Top Two Primary being passed in California, but here are a few things to keep in mind.

    1) Top Two Primary was first placed on the ballot in California via paid petition circulators in 2004 for the general election, and there was a slick advertising campaign for it then, yet it got voted down.

    2) The California legislature put Top Two Primary on the ballot for the June of 2010 primary election. The people who vote in primaries are most likely to be die hard Democrats and die hard Republicans, plus voter turn out for primaries is lower than for general elections. So a lot of the people who would have voted No on Top Two Primary in 2010 did not even vote on this issue at all because they did not vote in the June primary election. If it had been on the general election ballot in November of 2010 there is a better chance that it would have been voted down, or at least it would have had a more difficult time passing.

    3) Most people in California have noticed that there is a lack of choice on their ballots for candidates in general elections, and that alternative party and independent candidates have almost been erased from their general election ballots. Most people in California have also notice that in some races in the general election the choice has been Democrat vs Democrat or Republican vs Republicans. Lots of people in California are not happy about this lack of choice.

    4) Top Two Prmary was pushed by leading voices in both the Democratic and Republican parties, but now that it is apparent that Top Two Primary in California is helping Democrats more than it is helping Republicans, many Republicans have turned against Top Two Primary.

    5) A lot of California voters have not bothered to cast votes in races where the choice was Democrat vs Democrat or Republican vs Republican, as in they left that portion of their ballot blank.

So I think if an initiative to repeal Top Two Primary and restore the previous election law in California which Top Two Primsry replaced were to qualify for the ballot that there is a very good chance that it would pass.

  13. The quickest fix to top-two in California would be for the Legislature to authorize state parties to control who may or may not use their party label in the primary. It’s not a complete solution, but it would be easy to implement ASAP.
