Lansing — Four voters who are contesting former President Donald Trump’s eligibility to make next year’s primary ballot want the Michigan Supreme Court to weigh in on a case they say involves “weighty issues of nationwide interest.”
Their attorneys filed an emergency application Thursday seeking to skip consideration by the state Court of Appeals and go directly to Michigan’s high court.
The case centers on whether the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution should prevent Trump’s name from appearing on Michigan ballots next year.
The amendment, which dates back to the aftermath of the Civil War, says no one can hold office if they have previously taken an oath to support the Constitution but “engaged in insurrection or rebellion.”
Michigan Court of Claims Judge James Robert Redford ruled Tuesday that Trump’s name can appear on Feb. 27 presidential primary ballots and that it would be inappropriate for the courts to intervene and deem Trump disqualified.

Why does ballot access news need daily articles on the 14-3 nonsense? I understand it’s a pertinent subject here, but we pretty much all know it will die in a fire in the Supreme Court eventually and won’t keep President Trump off the ballot in a single state. Maybe once a week would be enough?
