If the so-called Democrats really believed in democracy, they wouldn’t be shutting down third parties. A much more democrat solution would be to establish run-off voting in states where no candidate or party gets 50% of the vote in an election.
This is not a foreign idea. Several US states have used, and continue to use run-off voting.
It takes a trifecta and/or supermajority control to change electoral systems. We don’t have that in many places, especially where it might make much difference. In general we are more supportive of runoffs than Republicans are – see Maine and Georgia for example.
